In mijn vorige bericht kreeg je foto's van mij te zien terwijl ik een huwelijksreportage fotografeerde. Ik dacht dat het misschien ook wel leuk zou zijn om het resultaat van de shoot te tonen. 

Martine en David zijn nu niet direct wat je noemt "een traditioneel koppel" en dus heb ik me op creatief vlak echt kunnen uitleven. Ik probeer altijd om de stijl van mijn foto's aan te passen aan het koppel. Blijkbaar heb ik goed aangevoeld welke stijl Martine en David leuk vonden, want ze zijn heel erg tevreden met hun album. Om het met hun woorden te zeggen: het was precies wat we wilden.

Ik vond het in ieder geval fantastisch om met hen te werken. Ik vind het een prachtig koppel en je ziet dat ze heel erg goed bij elkaar passen. Het was dan ook een hele leuke dag. Wat is het leven als fotograaf toch geweldig!

In my last post, I showed you some pictures of myself while shooting. I thought it might be nice to show you the results too. 

Martine and David are not what you call "a traditional couple", and so I got the chance to go all out on a creative level. I always try to adapt the style of my photos to the couple. Apparently I did a good job with Martine and David, because they are very happy with their album. To use their words: it was exactly what we wanted.

I really enjoyed working with them. I think they make a beautiful couple and you can see they're a perfect match. What a fantastic day. Ain't life great as a photographer?!

Onlangs is één van mijn cursisten uit de Academie van Maasmechelen, René Bradwolff, meegegaan op huwelijksreportage als assistent. Tussendoor heeft hij wat foto's gemaakt terwijl ik aan het fotograferen was. Het is best grappig om mezelf zo te zien op die foto's. Door de knieën, op de grond, in ongemakkelijke posities,... Je kan in ieder geval niet zeggen dat ik bang ben om me moe of vuil te maken om het goede shot te hebben. Vandaar dat ik altijd ook 2 outfits meeneem om een huwelijk te fotograferen: 1 set nette kleren voor de ceremonies en 1 set kleren die vuil mogen worden, zodat ik me niet moet inhouden tijdens de reportage.

Recently, one of my students at the Maasmechelen Academy, René Bradwolff, assisted me on a wedding shoot. He took some pictures of me while I was shooting. Kinda funny to see myself in these pics. Squats, on the floor, in uncomfortable positions,... You can't say I'm scared of getting tired or dirty to get the right shot. That's why I always take 2 outfits to a wedding shoot: 1 set of elegant clothes for the ceremonies and 1 set of clothes that can get dirty, so I don't have to hold back during a shooting.

Er is vandaag een artikel over mij verschenen in De Weekkrant. Leuk! Het staat in de rubriek "Starter in de kijker", waarbij een recent gevestigde zelfstandige de kans krijgt om zich te presenteren en wat meer over zichzelf te vertellen. Het interview is zo'n 2 weken geleden gebeurd en de zelfportretten, die heb ik vorige week gemaakt.

Today an article about me appeared in "De Weekkrant". Nice! It's in the section where the paper presents people that recently started their own company. It gives them the opportunity to present themselves and to tell people a bit more about who they are and what they do. A journalist interviewed me for this about 2 weeks ago and last week, I took the self portraits.

Ergens deze zomer werd ik gecontacteerd door Vanessa, die een heel leuk idee had. Ze zou in september trouwen en wou graag aan haar toekomstige echtgenoot professionele foto's van zichzelf cadeau doen. Het mocht natuurlijk een keertje iets anders zijn en dus hebben we er een hele make-over van gemaakt. Ymke is haar haren en make-up komen doen en daarna zijn we de bossen van Sint-Truiden ingetrokken met een paar verschillende outfits voor een heuse glamour/fashion shoot. 

Uiteindelijk heeft ze een selectie gemaakt van 10 foto's in een leuke fotobox en heeft ze de mooiste foto laten uitvergroten tot een poster van 60 x 90 cm, verstevigd op aluminium. Die zag er heel indrukwekkend uit! 

Somewhere this summer Vanessa contacted me with a very nice idea. She was going to get married in September and she wanted to give her fiancee some professional photos of her. For this occasion it had to be something special, so we made a whole make-over out of it. Ymke came to do her hair and make-up and after that, we went to a forest in Sint-Truiden with a few outfits to do a whole glamour/fashion shoot.

She eventually chose 10 photos to put in a nice photobox, together with a poster of 60 x 90 cm, on aluminum. It looked very impressive!

Heel de fotoshoot is in het grootste geheim gebeurd omdat het een verrassing moest zijn voor hem. Vanessa was dan ook blij toen ze de poster uiteindelijk kon overhandigen op het huwelijksfeest. Hij was heel erg verrast, had werkelijk niets door en vond het een heel erg mooie foto, die een speciaal plaatsje zal krijgen in hun huis.

Ik vond het in ieder geval een super leuk idee en het was heel fijn om haar voor de lens te hebben. Hier nog enkele foto's uit de reeks.

The shoot had to be a secret, because she wanted to surprise him. You can imagine Vanessa was very glad to be able to finally hand over the poster at their wedding party. He was very surprised, he really had no clue and he thought the photo was amazing. It was going to get a special place in their house.

I thought this was a very nice idea and it was a pleasure to have her in front of my lens. Here are some more photos from the series.

Naast mijn foto-opdrachten geef ik ook les. Meer bepaald aan de Academie van Maasmechelen en bij Syntra in Hasselt. De opleiding Fotokunst in Maasmechelen is nieuw opgestart in september en duurt 5 jaar met 2 jaar specialisatie. Ik ben met de cursisten onlangs naar de kermis geweest in Hasselt, voor een praktijkles sluitertijd. Tussendoor heb ik ook wat foto's gemaakt.

Besides my photographic assignments I'm also a teacher. I teach digital photography at the Academy of Maasmechelen and at Syntra in Hasselt. Photo Art is a new course at the Academy. It started in September and it's spread over 5 years and 2 years of specialization. Recently I took my class to the fair in Hasselt, to practice the technique of shutter speed. Here and there I took some photos too.

Binnenkort verschijnt er een artikel over mij in De Weekkrant. Tijd dus voor een paar nieuwe zelfportretten. En de ideale gelegenheid om mijn nieuwe Elinchrom Style 600 RX studiospots uit te testen. De spots zijn in ieder geval goedgekeurd. Nu de portretten nog. Bedankt aan Donny voor de hulp!

Somewhere next week an article about me will be published in a local newspaper, "De Weekkrant". And so I thought it was time for new self portraits. At the same time, I got the chance to try out my new Elinchrom Style 600 RX studio spots. The spots have been approved. I hope the same will happen to the portraits. Thanks to Donny for helping out!

Ik heb onlangs twee shoots gedaan om deel te nemen aan de fotowedstrijd Weekend Photo Award met als thema Street Fashion. Spijtig genoeg ben ik niet geselecteerd, maar dat neemt niet weg dat ik heel tevreden ben met het resultaat. Ik vind dat dit de beste modefoto's zijn die ik tot nu toe gemaakt heb.

Kim was het model voor de eerste reeks. Ze is professioneel model en een supercoole madam! Echt een plezier om mee te werken! Voor de tweede reeks poseerde Klara, zij is geen pro model, maar ze heeft het super goed gedaan en ze is ook een supercoole madam! Sara zorgde voor de visagie, Donny en Bert assisteerden. Voor de styling heb ik samengewerkt met een aantal winkels: Fornarina, La Bottega (met styliste Liesbeth Verlinden), Sacha, Fish & Chips en Troetels. Ook bedankt aan Karmen voor het mogen lenen van het konijntje. Ik heb 'm Jack genoemd. Beetje te veel Lost gezien de laatste tijd...

I recently did two shoots to enter the photo competition Weekend Photo Award. The theme was Street Fashion. I didn't get selected unfortunately, but that doesn't mean I'm not happy with the result. I think these series are the best fashion photos I've taken up till now.

Kim modeled for the first series. She's a professional model and an awesome lady! It was a pleasure to work with her. For the second series, I worked with Klara. She's not a pro, but she did a great job and she also is an awesome lady! Sara did the hair and make-up, Donny and Bert assisted. I cooperated with a few shops for the styling: Fornarina, La Bottega (stylist Liesbeth Verlinden), Sacha, Fish & Chips and Troetels. Also a big thank you to Karmen for lending me the bunny. I called him Jack. I think I've been seeing too many Lost episodes lately...

Als eerste post lijkt het mij wel aangewezen om een beetje over mezelf te vertellen. Ik ben Evi Wilmus, 27, fotograaf. Ik ben nu bijna 1 jaar fulltime zelfstandig fotograaf, sinds oktober 2007 om precies te zijn. Om van mijn fotografie te kunnen leven, doe ik vooral aan portretfotografie, huwelijken, baby's, zwangerschappen, familiefoto's, glamourshoots,... op locatie en in de studio. Ik geef ook les, digitale fotografie uiteraard. Daarnaast gaat mijn passie uit naar mode en reclame. Het is mijn doel om op lange termijn in die business te stappen en ik zal er alles aan doen om dat doel te bereiken.

Afgelopen zaterdag heb ik afgesproken met een paar vrienden. Aangezien zij ook fotografen zijn, hebben we samen wat foto's gemaakt. Bedankt aan Léonore voor het poseren en aan Dana Martens voor de make-up.

I think it's a good idea to say a few things about me in this first post. I'm Evi Wilmus, 27, photographer. I've been a fulltime freelance photographer now for almost a year, since Octobre 2007 to be precise. To be able to live of my photography, I do portraits, weddings, babies, pregnancies, families, glamour,... on location and in my studio. I'm also a teacher in digital photography. Besides that, my heart goes out to fashion and advertisement. It's my goal to start in that area and I will do anything to make it happen.

Last Saturday I met up with some friends who are also photographers. We took some photos together. Thanks to Léonore for modelling and to Dana Martens for hair and make-up.
